Info

  1. I don’t care about what you’re saying unless you give me reason to.
  2. I don’t make the subs, I steal them. Complain elsewhere.
  3. I do this because I can, if I get bored I may just drop some shows and never pick them up again.
  4. If you want to use money, buy JP merchandise. If you don’t want to do that, donate to the subgroup?
  5. All releases will be watched at least once by me to check them, so any problems could just be on your side.
  6. I watch things using MPC-HC, Haali media splitter, madVR, Lavfilters, xy-vsfilter and AC3filter(for upmixing).
  7. I pick up whatever I want but am open for reasonable suggestions.
  8. I’m aware of the fact that you are entitled to your own opinion, but if some other group is better in your eyes, don’t bitch here, but go there.
  9. I’m still learning and I am open to all reasonable feedback, I am a fast learner so it could certainly pay off.
  10. I’m not looking for any help a.t.m., but if you are certain that I could use your help then I’ll gladly listen to you.
  11. If you can’t play it, check your codecs, if you still fail, upgrade your 5 year old budget laptop.
  12. More to come. More is here!

Releases

Video

  • Source will always be the best source available for me, this will usually be a BDMV/BDISO found on share/PD or maybe a .ts or dvdiso for some projects.
  • Encodes will be done with the latest x264-10bit binary built by JEEB unless there is reason not to.
  • Resolution will be the best that I can get from the source, this usually means 720-1080p for blu-ray but if it’s too much of an upscale it may be lowered.
  • Cropping will be done on any sources that require it and may or not be mod16 in order to increase encode efficiency.
  • Ratecontrol will be crf, no exceptions. Values will be chosen to optimise quality/filesize and in my case I can deal with a tiny loss of quality in order to get a smaller filesize. This will not be visible unless you freezeframe during action sequences and who does that anyway?
  • Encoding may or may not be restricted to level 4.1, because less reference frames are easier on the CPU.
  • The base settings are “–preset veryslow –tune animation” and the rest may or may not be fiddled with to get better quality.
  • I filter video until I think it looks good, but our preferences may differ.
  • Screenshots/PSNR/SSIM are a way to check video quality, but I don’t really use those. I use these amazing things called EYES to compare quality. If it looks nice, I watch it, if not I encode differently.

Audio

  • Will be either AAC or Vorbis. (maybe AC3 for dvds)
  • Recut using mkvmerge, sources either a Vorbis track encoded from Blu-ray audio or AAC from a broadcast.
  • Blu-ray main audio tracks will be encoded to Vorbis@q7. (or AAC@q0.7 if I’m feeling weird)
  • Commentary tracks will be included if I want to. Vorbis@q3.
  • No I won’t use flac. If there is an amazing amount of demand I may give in and upload flac tracks to somewhere, but don’t count on it.

Subtitles

  • I will use the group that I like, but may include other tracks if I want to put in the extra effort.
  • I wait for v2’s unless the wait is way too long. This means no proper releases until that point.
  • Dialogue will not be edited unless it’s obvious typo’s I stumble upon when QC-ing. Main reason being that I’m not a native.
  • Typesetting will be altered to fit the new resolution or improved when I feel like it.
  • Style will be the same, unless it’s horrible eyecancer.
  • Timing is shifted and probably post-processed. If any obvious timing errors show up during QC they will be fixed.
  • Groups I use will usually end up being in the “cartel”. Commie>gg>UTW=Underwater=WhyNot?=GotWoot>Whatever other groups.
  • I enjoy lo(l)colizations and highly liberal translations. Trollsubs may be used if they make a show better. (though I may include a second track in that case)

Other stuff

  • Container will be mkv for main releases, mka for extra audio tracks (commentary or maybe flactrack).
  • Ordered chapters will be used whenever possible, so credits may show up on seperated OP/ED. I will probably include both a credited and creditless version that you can swap out to your liking
  • Filename was like this: (but I’ll change it at some point) <Show_name> (Ep/(Creditless-)Opening/Ending/PV/SP)<nr> [<source>-<vres>p][Flep].(mkv/mka)
  • I have to upload to my seedbox using either my 1mb/s home connection or maybe from work, but it can take a while for it to finish…
  • If you want to help with Distro, contact me I guess.
  • I may upload some v0 versions of releases. These will feature an encode that is probably final and the original script from a group, will be patched for batch.
